- Adenocarcinoma of the Urachus: A Primary Not to OverlookPublication . Alves, AS; Camelo, R; Varela, M; Lopes Dias, JUrachal carcinoma is a rare and aggressive neoplasm, involving the urachus, a remnant of the fetal genitourinary tract that extends from the umbilicus to the dome of the bladder. We present a 49-year-old woman with a history of pelvic discomfort and a palpable suprapubic mass. Pelvic ultrasound and magnetic resonance revealed a 55-mm midline supravesical mass, arising from the urachus and extending inferiorly through the bladder. The characteristics of the mass and its location favored the diagnosis of urachal carcinoma. There were no regional or distant metastases. The patient underwent surgical resection of the tumor and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of a non-cystic enteric type urachal adenocarcinoma. The purpose of this article is to present a case of primary adenocarcinoma of the urachus, describe its epidemiology and clinical features, as well as illustrate its key imaging findings along with pathologic correlation
- Anterior Fibromuscular Band Tumors: from an Unknown Zone to a Potential Common Cancer LocationPublication . Camelo, R; Lopes Dias, JProstate cancer is the fourth most common cancer and the eight cause of death by cancer worldwide. In particularly, anterior prostate cancers are frequently missed since they can be neither palpable nor tangible on physical examination. Furthermore, traditional TRUS-guided prostate biopsy accomplishes poorly in their diagnosis because anterior prostate cancers, including anterior fibromuscular stroma cancers, are not normally sampled. Consequently, these tumors are often diagnosed after recurrent negative biopsies, being larger at diagnosis, carrying a higher risk for the patient. The main objective of this paper is to highlight the importance of multi-parametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging in diagnosis of anterior fibromuscular cancers, describing the normal zonal anatomy and the typical tumors behave patterns at this location. In conclusion, MRI should perform a significant role in more precise lesion localization, particularly in the diagnosis of anterior prostate cancer. Prebiopsy MRI with an ADC map should be performed to avoid missing clinically significant cancer in the anterior gland, a problem inherent in the use of TRUS-guided biopsy.
- Perforated Meckel's Diverticulum in an AdultPublication . Camelo, R; Santos, P; Mateus Marques, RMeckel's diverticulum is the commonest congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. Its complications have an extensive variety of clinical and imaging manifestations, extending from benign and indolent findings to acute life-threatening conditions. Complicated Meckel's diverticulum often constitutes a challenging diagnosis for both the clinician and the radiologist. Therefore, imaging techniques play an important role in this condition in evaluating its complications, determining decision making. We describe a case of a 49-year-old man suffering from right abdominal pain with fever and constipation, during the past 5 days. Laboratory data revealed C-reactive protein of 306 mg/L and leukocytosis. Contrast-enhanced CT features were highly suggestive of perforated Meckel's diverticulum. The purpose of this article is to emphasize that besides its rarity, Meckel's diverticulum complications can occur in adult patients.
